Swine flu doses go quick at Liberty High School

Hundreds of people lined up Tuesday night at Liberty High School for an H1N1 vaccination and although the clinic was slated to run until 8 p.m., the 700 available doses ran out fast.  Only those who showed up early, when the clinic started, were able to get their vaccination.

This is the best process Washington County can come up with?  Other counties are setting up phone lines to make appointments, or sending out tickets to show up and know that you will have a vaccine dose available when you get there.  Washington County has decided that thousands (not hundreds, I was there) of people should line up outside, at night, in November with there babies and young children.  Meanwhile they pay 20 or so police officers to control the crowds that they know will show up in the cold weather.  We should expect better planning from our govenment!  This is unacceptable!!!

I agree.  I've heard that the county has plenty of vaccine but won't sign off for the doctors to release it.  This is the biggest pile of BS I've seen by and over stuffed county government.  Release it to people so we don't have to go to a million clinics in hoping that our kids can get a much needed vaccine.

I am pregnant and my OB does not have any vaccine. My toddlers pediatrician told me that they had exhausted various channels but have not secured any vaccine. Is the county distributing the vaccine only through public vaccination clinics? I went to the Liberty High School clinic 40 minutes ahead of time, waited there in the cold for 1.5 hours with a toddler, but still got nothing. Looks like the only way to get the vaccine is to camp out by the clinic 3 or more hours ahead of time. Not very practical for pregnant moms taking along little kids, or people with health conditions. I am very disappointed at the way Washington County Health Department handles the situation.

I was there as well. I got there at 3:30 (started at 5) and BARELY got it for myself (7 months pregnant) and my almost 3 years old. It was a more than 3 hour wait at that. There has got to be a better way. I have insurance (Kaiser) coverage too and they have none either forcing us to wait in these lines. The whole thing is rediculous.

Kaiser does have it and still does.  Beaverton clinic and interestate.
